I was commissioned by Fermynwoods Contemporary Arts to create a mask in December 2020. I made 5 and you can buy my favourite one, Sight and Site of Dissent, here.

The Masks for the 21st Century Artful Agitator series each have images that I drew digitally based on my body parts, and in a font that I have created, both using the digital drawing software Procreate. The phrase ‘sight and sight of dissent’ is a variation of another I developed circa 2010 then published in my PhD thesis, on the creative practice of ‘body as a sight and sight of protest’.

The masks are about catalysing change through artistic/artful processes. This draws on arguments shared on op-eds that I wrote over Summer 2020 of discontent, including in the Royal Society of Arts blog post on the need to be ‘artful, atypical and agile‘, on ArtsProfessional on ‘artful leadership‘, as well as being ‘ill-disciplined‘, all of which are well-covered on this website too.
