OVERVIEW: ‘Hyperactivity‘ is an invited chapter (144) for a new authoritative encyclopedia on mobilities studies published by Edward Elgar. Mobilities studies one of the fields I have situated my research in since 2009 and published several book chapters, journal articles and a book on. I have been an innovative lead on the themes of running and neuro-futurism as methods/frameworks that dialogue with and extend creative/artistic mobilities, urban mobilities and mobilities justice.
ABOUT THE ENCYCLOPEDIA
This Encyclopedia provides a comprehensive overview of the dynamic and interdisciplinary field of mobilities. It offers a broad definition of the rich and varied approaches to understanding the uneven movement of people, things, animals, infrastructures and ideas.
ABOUT KAI’S MOBILITIES RESEARCH
My work is recognised for developing innovative interdisciplinary research across Culture, Media and Performance, Education, and the wider SHAPE landscape. My key areas of contribution and impact in Mobilities Studies centre around cultural and creative mobilities, and mobilities justice. This includes my PhD and on running as an arts and humanities discourse, and subsequent founding of the movement Creative Running Cultures, leading to the founding of networks, international projects and PhD examinations. My 2024 monograph on change- and future-making as a critical mobilities practice is housed in libraries worldwide, and was nominated for the 2025 British Academy book prize.
